Seol Kwon (* 1972 in Seoul, South Korea) was raised in the US and now lives and works in Switzerland. She is a contemporary artist who combines traditional and modern techniques and creates abstract works full of nuanced color and texture. The artist studied painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and later completed a master's degree in New Media Art at the Haute École d'art et de design (HEAD) in Geneva. Her work includes various media, such as drawings, painting and photography.

Kwon's artistic style has evolved significantly over the years. Originally, she focused on figurative art and questions of identification before moving towards abstraction during the pandemic. In her more recent works, such as in the "Evolution" or “Unexpected Guests” series, she uses a mixture of ink, pigment, gouache, acrylic and oil paint. In the abstraction, the perspective does not use the singular vantage point from the Renaissance but rather a non-linear perspective as found in traditional Asian Art. This view of multiplicity encourages movement and engagement with a work of art, with a more universal approach to seeing.

The paintings have a unique and developed relationship with color, often using fine lines and tiny circles, and speaks to themes of consciousness, and the micro vs. macrocosm within the human experience at the intersection of nature and technology.

Seol Kwon’s work has been shown in underground venues such as: Sang Bleu in London, Luis Leu in Karlsruhe, Roehrs & Boetsch in Zürich, and Kentler International Drawing Space in New York, among others. Her work has been published in the Korean art periodical «Public Art» and is in the private collections of prominent international artists and collectors.
